Things To Do In The Virgin Islands

The Virgin Islands offers what many people describe as the “ultimate Caribbean experience”. It really doesn’t matter how you like to spend your vacation time, there’s so much to see and do in the Virgin Islands that the hardest part will be choosing what to do next from the amazing array of options. Let’s start at the beginning . . .
The US Virgin Islands (there are also British Virgin Islands) are St Croix, St John and St Thomas, so I think it only right that we take a look at them one at a time, to help you decide which “St” offers the best options for your perfect vacation, although plenty of people just island hop between them all.
Things To Do In The Virgin Islands – St Croix
How can you spend a typical day on vacation in St Croix, the largest of The Virgin Islands. Well, how about enjoying a leisurely breakfast before a morning relaxing on the beach, a tasty snack followed by a trip around a typical colonial church in the afternoon rounded off by a romantic dinner for two in the evening. That sounds like one helluva busy day to me, bring it on!
- St Croix Virgin Islands Attractions – as if the beautiful beaches and glorious waters weren’t enough, there’s also bucket loads of churches, museums and historic sites which offer more than a glimpse into the rich, diverse and lengthy history of St Croix.
- St Croix Virgin Islands Entertainment – there’s lots of history here, but there’s also lots of up to the minute entertainment going on too, with theater performances and live music . . . check out the casino too, it’s a little bit “Vegas” with a healthy dose of carefree Caribbean spirit. Night time really is as exciting as day time in St Croix.
- St Croix Virgin Islands Dining – all of that activity is bound to make you a little peckish, and the dining experiences in St Croix will definitely step up to the mark. Cuisine is on offer from all over the world, so if you fancy a taste of France, something Thai or something uniquely Caribbean, you certainly won’t be going hungry.
- St Croix Virgin Islands Exploration – there’s lots to explore, so if you can possibly tear yourself away from the sea, sand and surf why not spend a day or two taking in the exotic inland scenery on a horseback ride, safari or one of the popular ecotours.
- St Croix Virgin Islands In The Water – the diving in these parts is world class, you’re only a few flippers away from vibrant coral reefs teeming with weird and wonderful colorful sealife with more than a scattering of fascinating sunken ships close by just ready to explore.
Things To Do In The Virgin Islands – St John
- St John Virgin Islands Attractions – apart from the beautifully pristine beaches the island of St John is home to the breathtakingly stunning National Park, plus a variety of colonial historical sites where you really discover the history of these beautiful islands.
- St John Virgin Islands Entertainment – expect the evening entertainment to be extremely laid back and low key here, with the emphasis on calypso at the numerous beach bars, a little open air jazz, or you can even help with the entertainment at one of the ever popular karaoke bars . . . now that’s one way to clear the bar at bedtime.
- St John Virgin Islands Dining – there’s no need to go hungry on your trip to the Virgin Islands, whatever type of food takes your fancy. Enjoy some mouthwatering seafood on the BBQ and some of the tastiest jerk dishes around. Hmmm, might need a nice cool drink for a little added refreshment.
- St John Virgin Islands Shopping - if you’re looking for a precious souvenir to remind you of your trip, or as a gift for those who weren’t as fortunate as you to bag a vacation at St John, then the unique shops here are probably your best chance of getting something that little bit special.
- St John Virgin Islands in the Water – swimming, snorkeling, diving . . . all of the Virgin Islands offer a fantastic experience for any water babies, and St John is certainly no different.
Just the sound of the waves gently lapping on the shore is enough to persuade me that this truly is paradise.
Things To Do In The Virgin Islands – St Thomas
- St Thomas Virgin Islands Attractions - I know that I keep saying that all of the Virgin Islands have something for everyone, but it really is true. On a trip to St Thomas you can enjoy some truly fascinating historical sites, dazzling golf courses . . . there’s even a 700 foot skylift reaching right to the top of Charlotte Amalie.
- St Thomas Virgin Islands Entertainment – the nightlife in St Thomas can certainly be described as lively, you can enjoy singing and dancing for as long as you can possibly manage . . . but don’t forget that there’s plenty of daytime stuff to do at St Thomas too, so make sure that you get at least a couple of early nights and early mornings.
- St Thomas Virgin Islands Dining – Charlotte Amalie, the capital city of US Virgin Islands has tons of different dining options, from the top end of the scale with haute cuisine prepared by the finest chefs, to the more traditional and modest food of the islands.
- St Thomas Virgin Islands Bird Watching – there are some great sponsored bird walking tours available in St Thomas, as well as plenty of historic walks which can really help you to get a feeling of the past culture of the US Virgin Islands.
