Discount Trip Planning

For many of us excitable types, one of the best parts of a trip is actually planning for it. Even if you plan well in advance it can still give you that little tingly feeling of anticipation when you make the arrangements for going somewhere special – even if you don’t have a fancy budget to spend, and planning well in advance can be a really good idea if you need to travel at a discount. Discount trip planning is still good fun, in fact, it can get quite addictive seeing just exactly how much dosh you can save if you look hard enough.

Right, you’ve decided where you want to go, you’ve booked some time from work and all you need now is to get as  much as possible for your limited amount of money. Rest assured, if you shop around a little you can make some substantial savings on even the major expenses of your trip.

  • Frequent Flyer Programs – are a brilliant way of getting the best deals, time and time again. Definitely worth looking into, especially if you do need to make frequent flights. Check it out online and see how much you can save.
  • Airticket Special Offers – if you’re not to within a day or two, you might be surprised at how much money you can save by booking your air ticket well in advance. Often just by moving the dates a little you can save half the money – I know, it doesn’t make sense to me either but it’s all about supply and demand, and if you can fly on a good day then you’ll have some great savings available. Check online and try a few different dates to see which is the most cost effective.
  • Visas – do find out well in advance about any visas which you need to visit your vacation hot spot. You’ll very often find that they offer a quick turnaround service, but you’ll have to pay for it. If you allow plenty of time for a visa to go through the normal procedure it’s another way of saving a little cash.
  • Exchange rates – keep an eye on the currency exchange rates against the dollar for the place you are planning to visit. By swapping any currency at the right time can make a big difference about how much money you get to spend in local currency. Also check out where you’ll get the best exchange rate. You might find that the rate in the bank is good, or you might find that an alternative currency house can offer you a little bit more for a dollar which can amount to a substantial difference in your spending money.
  • Accommodation – when you are planning to take a trip on a discount, you must check out for all of your accommodation options online. Many places actually offer a discount if you do book online, I suppose it cuts down on their administration costs, anyway, look at all your options and see what’s available. You might be able to find somewhere a little more upmarket for your dollars than you expected, or you might find an inexpensive hotel which has some good reviews from previous visitors. These reviews can give you a really helpful insight at which are “cheap and cheerful” and which are just “cheap”. You get my drift?
